Caring for an Aging Parent
Normally to qualify for this transfer exemption, the child would need to move in with a parent to provide care. We've successfully accomplished a penalty-free property transfer when an ailing parent moved in with the child caregiver.
Saving the Home
If your parent moves into an assisted living facility, normally their former home will become a countable asset for Medicaid. We've successfully established that when the move is for medical reasons, the home should be excluded.
Formalizing Family Agreements
Did you purchase a rental property or a vacation home? We've repeatedly established these properties as formal income producing assets which protect their excluded status and generate additional income for spouses at home.
"Shannon Hammond is an exceptional attorney. We have two children with special needs and had many concerns and questions on how to best plan for them if something happened to us. Shannon answered all our questions, and helped us to determine the best solution for our family. She is kind, patient and professional. We have referred other families in our same situation, and they have had the same experience with Hammond Law. Highly recommend!"
"Shannon Hammond did an excellent job for my parents. Her expertise was/is so impressive...On our first meeting Shannon Hammond spent over 2 hours asking questions and with the information created an excel spreadsheet - the information was unique to my parents' situation... I highly recommend using Shannon Hammond for any elder care services but especially if applying for Medicaid."

"When I came to Ms. Hammond I was at the end of my rope. I was facing putting my Mom in a nursing home. I didn't know where to turn, what to do, I was up against a wall. When we met she answered all my questions, had a check sheet of what needed to be done and what to expect in the months ahead. The price was reasonable & her advice was right on time. My Mom and I could never repay her for what she has done for us. I only wish I had gone to her first. I tell her all the time and I mean it, I could never, ever repay her. I only wish there were more stars to give her. Thanks Ms. Hammond !!"
"Our first visit with Ms. Hammond made us completely comfortable and had no hesitation in hiring her. She and her staff handled everything quickly and even though we had to provide lots of information, they assisted us with every thing we needed. I still have a matter I want her to take care of and I'm sure she will again help get the matter taken care of. I will continue using her with any matter relating to the issue of my husband's care. Again Shannon and her staff are excellent and most of all very caring."
"Shannon came very highly recommended to us by a mutual acquaintance, for a small, yet quite complicated, Family Estate filing and closing...She not only helped us to uncover some errors from our previous Family Estate Attorney, but she also fixed them, and helped us throughout the entire process to insure that our loved one's Estate was completed properly, and with no errors or surprises...She explains everything so you can understand it, and she is very attentive to details, and listens to what the client has to say before suggesting her solution(s) or course of action...We highly recommend Shannon, and the entire staff of Hammond Law, LLC. We honestly could not be happier with the service, counsel, and efforts of her, her firm, and her staff. Thank you so much, Shannon!"
